Legal Limits is a vehicle-based two player, co-op, police game, in which players tackle both action-rich as well as mundane everyday police-tasks together in an open city-environment. It’s your duty to make the town a safer place by either catching robbers in thrilling pursuits, pulling over speed violators or checking parking tickets on your daily patrols. As a police officer you earn money by protecting your town from criminals, which you can then re-invest into your own equipment and police station.
I was honored to lead a team of 5 people developing Legal Limits with the Unity engine as part of our final university project for our Master’s Degree in the field of MultiMediaTechnology.
Gameplay
Legal Limits is completely vehicle based. In two-player split screen mode the players cooperate to earn as much as money and cause as little damage as possible while completing typical tasks of a police officer on patrol.
The entire user interface is intuitively embedded into 3D space in order to maximize the players’ attachment to the city environment.
Typical tasks include: park ticket validation, traffic speed control, car chases, catching drunk drivers etc.
The city environment is fully destructible, however causing damage will decrease the players’ income. The environment also features a fully functioning traffic AI system as well as dynamic lighting / weather with a day / night cycle.
Money earned during police shifts can be spent on upgrading cars that are already owned by the players or for buying new and improved cars, such as a police SUV or supercar.
